The Perennial Project
We
wish to engage and organize a wide diversity of businesses,
organizations, schools, offices, clubs and individuals, to plant 350
perennial edibles throughout Bellingham. Each
will be marked with a tag showing its number in the lineup, along with
the business/organization sponsoring the perennial, and the reverse
side will provide information about 350 parts per million (the
threshold through which the atmosphere can sustain CO2 levels), and how
growing food locally (especially perennials that will reward us each
year with their bounty!) can reduce our food carbon footprint. Through
communal action we wish to inspire the people of Whatcom County towards
sustainability and provide methods through which a sustainable future
can be achieved.
Please
contact Tristan Bach (360 801 5590/bach.return@gmail.com) if you
wish to:
1) Donate Perennials
2) Sponsor Perennials ($25 per perennial/tree)
3) Help Planting
For
organizations or individuals who personally want to attend the planting
of their perennial/tree we can provide a photo opportunity that will be
put into an online database. This database will show where each
perennial/tree is planted, along with its donators and sponsors.
The Prayer March
On
the night of October 24th we will embark upon a silent march to bring
closure to a day of immense activity; a day where individuals and
groups around the world will have demonstrated, in their own unique
way, how we, as a global society, can join together and pave the way
for a sustainable future. It is becoming clear (although at times it
may seem the contrary) that our collective humanity is growing in
community and sensitivity and we wish to compliment our activities with
the subtle affects of silence and prayer. Such practices are necessary
not only to bring closure to our activities, but also to maintain and
sustain the energy levels necessary for global change. We will be
meeting at the Village Green at 6:45 PM and the march will commence at
7:00PM towards Boulevard Park. We will then retrace our footsteps
towards the Village Green. We ask that people bring their own candles
to illuminate our transition.
